Undergraduates Appreciative of Strong Alumni Base The Brothers of Beta-Chi Chapter of Kappa Sigma took part in an exciting year. Our activities included the recruitment of another strong fall class, a Man of the Year banquet with the National Fraternity, a successful sixth annual philanthropy fish fry, a third place cudgel during the St. Pat’s celebration, a trip to Kappa Sigma International Headquarters, and a full-scale Chapter House cleanout in preparation for the house renovation and expansion project. Man of the Year Celebration In February, we were honored to be a part of the 2009 Kappa Sigma Man of the Year event, honoring Brother Gary D. Forsee ’69. The event brought a great deal of national attention to the Chapter. The number of alumni and national representatives attending the event gave us an extra push to make the house look better than it has in years. Trip to National Headquarters During the February event, Kappa Sigma’s executive director noted the superb artwork of the 2004 cudgel placed in our foyer. At the time, Beta-Chi was looking for homes for our cudgels and the National Fraternity suggested that we donate one to them.
Eleven Beta-Chi representatives traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia, on May 18-20, where we donated the 96th best-ever St. Pat’s first place cudgel. A commendation to Brother Jason Williams ’03 is in order for his hard work as cudgel chairman that year. The cudgel now resides in the second floor entrance, where it can be admired by Kappa Sigmas from across the country. Future Living Arrangements For the next two semesters, Beta-Chi members will live at 207 W. 9th Street in the Buehler building. This building is newly renovated and located in downtown Rolla, one-half mile from campus. The future of Beta-Chi looks bright with a new Chapter House in the works, a strong alumni support base, and a young executive committee to lead the way. Please contact me with any questions regarding our Fraternity.
