A Letter to Alumni

June 18, 2007

Dear Brother,

Greetings from Missouri University of Science and Technology (effective January 1, 2008), formerly known as the University of Missouri - Rolla, formerly known as Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy!

As chairmen of the 2007 Annual Fund, we want to thank you once again for your past financial support. We are grateful to those of you who felt a strong enough loyalty to the Beta-Chi chapter during the past to offer up your hard-earned dollars to support our annual fund. Your continued support to the 2007 Annual Fund would be  appreciated.
Thanks to you and many others, Beta-Chi’s membership is top-tier on campus.  The chapter has won numerous awards both locally and nationally. With your support we have been able to pay down our housing debt, keep  current with maintenance, and even make improvements. We also have been able to raise scholarship dollars, send out newsletters, host Homecoming, maintain our website and alumni directory, and send out e-news a few times during the year.

The cost of continuing this alumni programming and being able to maintain our facilities (plus make plans for a future new house) is approximately $25,000 annually.  Make no mistake: your annual contribution is what allows us to maintain this excellence.
In addition, we would like to address the UMR/Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund.  The proceeds of this fund provide scholarships to freshmen who pledge Kappa Sigma. The pledges must meet strict academic standards. This scholarship has been a successful tool in attracting bright young men to pledge Kappa Sigma. We currently have about $70,000 that provides a few $500 scholarships. We need about $350,000 so we can provide $1,500 scholarships. Beta-Chi was the first chapter to provide this type of scholarship and now other fraternities are  providing $1,000 scholarships. To be competitive we need to increase this scholarship. Over the next couple of years we can accomplish this with your support. Donating to the UMR/Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund is considered by the University as a donation to the University. You will receive the same recognition as if you donated to the University and the tax benefits that follow.

With this in mind, the Alumni House Corporation Board is hopeful that alumni like you who have been generous in the past will again prove to be willing to go the extra mile so we can meet our short-term and long-term goals. Our goal is to convince all 293 of our past annual fund and campaign supporters to join with us in making a gift this year, and count another 57 brothers as new donors to bring our 2007 total to 350 donors.

Your contribution of $5,000, $2,500, $1,000, $500, $250, $100, $50 or anything you feel is within your means will keep our alumni and  parent network strong, allow us to maintain our facilities, pay down our housing debt, and award more scholarships to deserving members.

We also want to announce that we will be moving the annual Beta-Chi Hall of Fame from Homecoming Weekend in the fall to Saint Pat’s Weekend in the spring. We will hold our next induction ceremony in March of 2008. Please be sure to let us know if you want to nominate a brother for induction.

Thanks in advance. Please remember, without you, we cannot succeed!
